New stretch target

We live in a rapidly changing climate of changing values, family structures, social interactions and world instability for our younger generation.

Teenagers can often find themselves out of their depth in dealing with life issues which can majorly affect their psycho-social and educational development. Schools are at full stretch and often do not have the time or resources to meet these needs at an individual level.

Life & Soul is a local charity in Tunbridge Wells working with vulnerable children and young people age 5-25 years. For 16 years, our weekly mentoring with homeless teenage parents has given us first-hand experience of devastating pain and hardship and want to protect others from experiencing the same.

The aim, through all our work is to raise self-esteem, help our young people accept and celebrate who they are, discover their voice, gain knowledge and be empowered to make wise life decisions.

We have identified key insights leading to young pregnancy and young homelessness and have worked tirelessly developing a complete prevention and intervention programme in our local primary and secondary schools.

In secondary schools, we deliver Personal, Social, Health, Economic (PSHE) Education workshops on topics which include healthy relationships, sexual well-being, sexual health, pornography, media messaging & me, sexting and emotional well-being.

Every week, we support almost 50 young people through our 1:1 Connect Mentoring programme, we invest heavily in training our dedicated volunteers who give ½ hr each week to each young person. Our solution-focused approach ensures the mentees discover the resource within themselves for effective change and remain in education. 100% of mentees who have taken part in our mentoring say it has been beneficial to them.

In response to mentoring a large number of year 7 children, we created a resilience programme for years 5 & 6 children to aide effective transition to secondary school. Any patterns of behaviour we see here is addressed in the assemblies we deliver to thousands of children each year. For those with more severe trauma, our play therapist is there to work through their challenges.
