Having been affected by mental illness in the family and seeing how much of an amazing job the nurses did when helping my family member get back to health I’ve always been inspired to do something and help the cause. After being in an institute and seeing how people responded to being taken outside I wondered if that could be taken a step further, there’s so much research online with links to outdoor activities and helping depression and anxiety. I’ve suffered with depression and not wanting to leave the house, but as a soon as I’m up and out and enjoying an outdoor activity all my stresses and worries disappear. I’m hoping with some government backing or from local councils we can get group meetings with people suffering from mental health - getting a group of people including transport taken to places such as canoeing, hiking, bike riding or maybe something more relaxing such as yoga. I hope with some help I can make this dream of mine come true and help lots of people not just from where I live in Exeter but all over the UK.
