I need gastric bypass surgery to change my life

by Gemma Pell-Fallowell in Amlwch, Wales, United Kingdom

I’m 36, nearly 28st with a BMI of nearly 60,  Married for 15 years to a wonderful man who loves me to the ends of the earth, I’ve been overweight all my life and I’m the only one in my family who is. Ive tried, struggled and failed with every diet/non-diet/lifestyle change since I was a kid. I’ve been on one heck of a ride these past few years, I lost my darling mum to oesophageal cancer 12 years ago at the age of 56, then followed 8 years looking after my dad whilst he recovered from a succession of periods of illness (bladder cancer, heart attacks, abdominal aortic aneurysm, triple heart bypass) when finally it seemed I was through the fog and could start focusing on life I was diagnosed with ptsd, Fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety. I’ve been told by a dietician and consultant that my chances of losing weight by myself and maintaining it at this stage in my life is less than 5% due to medication I’m on, my limited mobility due to the fibro and that my only real option to save my life is gastric bypass surgery. The NHS have all but given up on me and I have almost no chance of having the surgery on the NHS due to it not being available in my area and despite letters of recommendation from a gastric surgeon my LHB is not willing to refer me out of area. I’m just asking for help, I’m mortified I’m having to do this but there’s no way I can fund  it alone, we only just scrape by as it is. I would love to try and experience life as I’ve never experienced it before.. as an average sized person who doesn’t get taunted and picked on and shouted at in the street, Please don’t be cruel to me, if you disagree with me trying this,  then I understand but please don’t judge me. Thank you so much for reading
