The Let's Go Joe campaign has been set up to raise funds for a specialist residential place at Fairfield Farm College for Joe Montebello, so that he will be able to learn life skills to take him into adulthood.
For those that don't know Joe, he is a kind, gentle, quiet and vunerable 16 year old who has severe learning disabilities. He has been offered a place at Fairfield Farm College (www.ffc.ac.uk) where he will start a two year course in Vocational Independence Training, with the ultimate aim of an internship in his chosen subject, Animal Management, preparing him for future employment.
Due to cuts in education there is no funding available for Joe to take up the residential element of the course which would specifically give him the opportunity to gain vital life skills - for example: cooking, shopping, budgeting and finances, personal hygiene and care, using public transport, learning who is appropriate to talk to. These new skills will enable Joe to make fundamental decisions independently.
Joe enjoys homelife, spending time with his family and dogs, however he has become isolated since finishing as a boarder at his last school, and his needs for future development are becoming increasingly more difficult to meet. This is his window of opportunity! The residential place at FFC focusses on nuturing young adults with learning disabilities to reach their full potential. It will help Joe on the road to independence and a happier future life where he can make his contribution to society.
Joe has already completed an assessment weekend in the residential unit at Fairfield and has had the chance to meet staff, fellow students and get a feel for the place. He has been offered a residential place for one weekend a month from September 2017 and a full time termly residential place from September 2018.
We thank you for any donation you can make to support Joe's future and ask you to share this campaign with your friends and family so that we can reach as many people as possible who would like to help Joe reach his full potential.
So please join our campaign and share it with all your network of people.
