***Campaign Closed, Donations Delivered!***Thank you for your huge support! Please read update!

We did it!

On 30th Nov 2015 we successfully raised £7,113 of £5,000 target with 409 supporters in 3 days

UPDATE: 21/12/15

Dear friends, we have a final Christmas update for you today!

This past Wednesday, we met with the Philip family, and gave Subi a banker’s draft for £6,300. For full disclosure, here is how the funding breaks down:

  • The campaign was pledged £7,113, of which £6686.22 was paid.
  • After paying fees to Crowdfunder, Paypal, Stripe and the VAT, the campaign received £6061.06, which we brought up to £6300 through our own contribution.

For further information on how the final figure was reached, please see the following page: http://support.crowdfunder.co.uk/support/solutions/articles/4000043973-what-are-your-fees-

In the interest of giving the family their privacy, we decided to wait a number of days before posting this final update to avoid any further unnecessary public interest.

We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank each and every backer for your overwhelming support and solidarity.

Our ultimate goal in organising this campaign was to reach out and show that the open, welcoming and inclusive community which attracted the family to make their lives in Northern Ireland today stands taller, and speaks louder than the side of our community which hoped to drive them away.

Whether the family feels safe to once again take up their vital place in our community, or chooses to move on, they have our full support.

We can think of no better way to close this campaign than to share some of the messages you have left...

"This is the County Antrim I'm from."

"We really appreciate and value the work you do and the contribution you make to our society.”

“Love is stronger than fear!!! We're with you Subi!"

"...Appreciate all your hard work in Antrim Hospital and wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas xx"

"...This is people power saying we welcome diversity in Northern Ireland and the job that you do in our health service. God Bless you and your family…."

"There is more good in this world than we know….”

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Michael, Tom, and Johnny.

UPDATE: 30/11/15

Dear friends, after a whirlwind 3 days, we have raised £7,113 for Subi Philip and her family. The campaign is now closed.

We would like once again to express our immense gratitude to the hundreds of people who answered our call and pledged to the campaign, as well as for the dozens of messages of support which will be relayed to the family.

UPDATE: 15:00 - 28/11/15

YOU DID IT! We have reached the goal of £5,000 (plus a lot more!) in under 24 hours! Thank you everyone for your kindness, it has been overwhelming to witness. Earlier, the family expressed their gratitude for all the support and kind words. We have arranged to meet with the family in the coming days, but for now we must respect the privacy of Subi and her family as these are still very difficult times for them.

Subi Philip is is a cardiac nurse, who until the night of Thursday 26 November, lived in Antrim with her husband and two children. This morning, she has been forced to flee her home, for her own and for her family's safety, after her car was set ablaze while they slept. The fire destroyed the vehicle, and burned the side of their home.

Why? The police believe the attack was motivated by racial hatred. Mrs Philip and her family are originally from India.

Northern Ireland is indebted to people like Mrs Philips, who bring valuable, and in her own case, life-saving skills to our country. We need to make it known loudly and clearly, that immigrants are welcome in Northern Ireland, that this place is a country where people can bring their ideas, their investment, and most importantly, their families, knowing that that they will be welcomed.

The actions of Thursday night are not representative of the Northern Ireland we know, but a place and a time we want to leave in our history books. Our Northern Ireland is an open and forward thinking society, where people are judged on the strength of their character, the work they do, and the contribution they make.

In short, this campaign is not about replacing a car, in spite of the title. It's is a cross-community call to the Philips, and the many other families like them who will see this headline, and have second thoughts about staying another year here. And it's an opportunity, for our own sake, to take another senseless act which would make us embarrassed to be from Northern Ireland, and turn it into something of which we can be proud.

28 days until Christmas people. Please donate and share on your social media!

UPDATE: We have reached out to the family, who have expressed their gratitude for your support and kind words.
