AcroYoga is a beautiful and powerful discipline, based on a uniquely therapeutic combination of partner exercise, flexibility, massage and meditation. Achieving a state of total trust and harmony with another person enables the practictioner to let go of their worldly baggage, and centre themselves in a way many people won't have experienced before.
As an activity it has immense power to help people in need of balance and support, whether that means working through emotions that are holding them back, or just increasing flexibilty improving the body's function.
Born in an ashram in the USA, Nuku has been practicing yoga his entire life. In the last few years he has focused on developing his AcroYoga practice, exploring its appliction as a form of physical and psychological therapy.
As an experienced Life Coach, youth worker and dance instructor, Nuku's focus has always been on reaching out to groups within society who may not normally have access to or seek out these activities, and engaging with them to find ways of bringing more happiness and relaxation into everyday life. His long-term aim with this new qualification is to establish a school and community centre, providing these marginalised groups with positive and life-enriching activities with AcroYoga as a focus.
In the closer future he will offer classes to schools, local Plymouth businesses and other community groups that might not otherwise get the chance to try this life enhancing activity. His primary aim is to offer these groups the clarity, happiness, strength and stability that regular AcroYoga practice offers, thereby improving the level of wellbeing in the wider Plymouth community.
But before any of this can happen, he needs his official AcroYoga teacher qualification.
And that's where you come in!
Why we're running a crowdfunder
Nuku is already a qualified Hatha yoga teacher, having studied at the Akhanda Yoga Ashram in the Himalayan foothills of Northern India. This training has so far cost over £4,600, and now he needs your help to make the next step to fully qualified AcroYoga teacher. A further £3,777 is needed to pay for the courses and associated costs needed to complete the training programme.
These courses include:
- Thai Massage
- Therapeutic AcroYoga
- Immersive AcroYoga Fundamentals
All of these are building towards the final AcroYoga training course in Berlin:
Who will this help?
With this training, Nuku will be able to open up his uniquely therapeutic AcroYoga style to the businesses, people and wider community of Plymouth and the South-West. With regular classes established, he will be well on the way to realising his aim of a community centre and school, providing much needed support and relaxation for the community.
Every journey starts with a single step, and this is it for Nuku.
Please give what you can, and let Nuku teach!
