New stretch target

Any extra funds raised may be used towards the next General Election.

We are delighted to announce that we will be standing three candidates in the local elections on 2nd May. The fabulous Dr Hannah Barham-Brown will be our candidate in Roundhay, in addition to our other candidates; Dr Louise Jennings in Alwoodley and Caroline Hunt in Headingley & Hyde Park.

Dr Hannah Barham-Brown - Our Candidate for Roundhay

'As a GP Trainee in Leeds, I see many of the challenges faced by our population. I founded Help in Handbags in response to Period Poverty in the city, and have already helped nearly 100 people through their periods. As a disabled person myself, I know that improving access for wheelchair users like me leads to improved services for all; in the same way that equality for women leads to equality for all. Roundhay has welcomed me with open arms, and it would be my honour and privilege to return that support by working as your local Councillor.'

Dr Louise Jennings - Our Candidate for Alwoodley

'Having lived in Leeds for more than 20 years, I care deeply about our local community and making it a better place for everyone to live. I work in engineering at the University of Leeds, I’m also a mum to my nine-year-old son, a wife, a founding member of the Women’s Equality Party. Throughout my life I’ve fought against the gender based inequalities entrenched in our society, and I’m passionate about tackling them for the benefit of all local people.'

Caroline Hunt - Our Candidate for Headingley & Hyde Park

'Campaigning for gender equality is what I do every day of the week.  I work with Help In Handbags to combat period poverty for the homeless of Leeds and I run the Northern Hub of the Women's Equality Party - fighting inequality across the North of England.  Last year I had the honour of being the election agent for Headingley & Hyde Park and this year I am delighted to take on the role of candidate.'

Help us elect the first Women's Equality Party Local Councillor in Leeds.

All contributions however small gratefully received - we will be printing leaflets, handing out information and covering volunteer expenses. If you would like to get involved do email us on leeds@womensequality.org.uk
