Leagrave Scout Group are the fastest growing and largest scout group in Luton with over 120 members in 3 sections. We have made this growth over the past 10 years and this has brought it's own problems, more equipment, more leaders, more camps, more involvement in the local community and local council events. All of this has meant we have increasing demands on our time and equipment.
To assist this growth we launched a big fundraising push last year and were successful in raising funds to purchase new camping equipment to replace the 10 year old equipment we had. This new equipment has already been well utilised at camps, local charity and community events and even by the local council in recent events.
We have now realised that to move this new equipment to and from these events we have had to hire in vehicles at great expense and on a regular basis. To this end we are looking to purchase a large enclosed trailer to carry the equipment to all these events, hence the request to support our bid for Aviva Community Project Funds.
The trailer would allow us as a group to provide more equipment to local community groups and our own sections as the savings on vehicle hire would be put towards reducing the costs of these camps.
The group growth over the past 10 years has been down to the unstinting commitment of the leaders, who volunteer & put in hours of additional commitment over and above the 2 hours on section meetings to raise funds to maintain this growth and teach all our young people 'Skills for Life'.
