THIS PAGE IS FOR THE LANGWATHBY LANTERN (Kirkby Stephen, Ullswater and Penrith have their own pages).
Each year the Winter Droving gets better and bigger! We look for new things to add, new acts and treat, and for 2017 we'd like to add some new giant animal lanterns to the grand torchlight parade.
The new lanterns will be representing their respective towns, villages and areas, be something for you to join in the parade - to show your community and town off to the 20,000+ visitors and you get that delicious warm feeling of knowing that you were part of making this happen. The lanterns can't be made without your support.
Rather than the Winter Droving crew just come up with all the ideas we held competitions in schools to come up with the ideas for what the animals should be. The winner in Langwathby was Fenton at Langwathby Primary School with his curious Curlew! This will make an awesome lantern!!
So now we need to get it made (we are not saying it's a race with Kirkby Stephen, Ullswater and Penrith - but let's just say it will be interesting to see which one gets to the target first!!).
The lanterns are designed, made and internally lit by professional artists - who are all on standby to make us some more for this year's Droving.
Let's get these done!!
PS Businesses can sponsor the lantern, once it is made, for £500. Please call 01768 899444 or email [email protected] if you would like to sponsor.
The winning Culew by Fenton from Langwathby Primary School.
The Winter Droving is a one day festival of fire, light, music and a sprinkling of mayhem held in Penrith Town Centre on 28th October 2017. Drawing 20,000 visitors to the town, the festival includes 5 stages across the town, filled with street acts, music from UK bands and the highlight of the day is the fire and lantern procession, containing hundreds of "Drovers" carrying fire torches and huge animal lanterns are pulled through the town as night falls. www.winterdroving.uk
