Can you help to fund this year’s Patina events for Iford & Kingston’s Year 6 children?
We’re raising money to help our Year 6 children celebrate their transition to secondary school in the annual Patina parade. Our usual fundraising events are currently unable to go ahead so we’d really appreciate any support you can give to enable the children to come together and celeberate at the end of a challenging year.
What is Patina?
Patina is a charity that promotes the arts in Lewes and surrounding areas. The flagship activity is the Moving On Parade, which takes place in Lewes each July to celebrate the transition from primary to secondary school. The parade involves a stunning moving tide of sculptures, costumes and music through town – made by hundreds of children from local primary schools working with a team of local artists.
Now in its 20th year, Moving On has become an important and much looked forward to part of the local cultural calendar, for the children who participate as well as for the wider community who come out each year to support and cheer the children through.
How much do we need to raise?
Patina works hard all year to fundraise and asks each school taking part to contribute a small proportion of the total costs. This works out at roughly £20 per child. There is absolutely no obligation for parents to contribute but, as the usual fundraising events are currently hard to arrange, we’ve set up this page to make donating quick and easy. Please feel free to share the link with family, friends, neighbours etc.
What if the parade can't go ahead because of Covid?
In 2020, the parade was cancelled due to Covid, but the charity ensured that the children still had the opportunity to work with artists (remotely) - read more about their wonderful creations here. We are very much hoping that the parade will happen in the usual way in 2021 but, in case it's not possible, Patina is busy working on lots of great ideas to help the children celebrate their Moving On moment in a creative, fun and truly memorable way.
