My name is Geraint Williams and it is my ambition to summit Mount Kilimanjaro sometime in the next two years to raise money and awarenesss for Ataxia UK.

Around 10 years ago I was diagnosed with Friedriech's Ataxia (FA) a condition that affects balance and co-ordination. Unfortunatly FA is a progressive condition with no available treatment. While it has been difficult to adapt to the changes that it has brought to my life I have always been determined to carry on living a normal life,  doing normal things with a little adaption when needed.

Last year I completed a Skydive and raised around £1500 for Ataxia UK. I was amazed by the support that I receieved and how much I enjoyed doing something outside my comfort zone. I remember sombody asking me 'what's next?', I replied that I would love to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. As I use a wheeled walking frame I thought that this was a pie in the sky idea, however a few months ago I saw an article about an adaptive wheelchair called a Mountain Trike. The Trike is specificaly desingned for off road, rough terrain and people have used it to climb Kilimanjaro in the past. Then my brain started ticking and I thought 'why not, what's stopping me, surely with a bit of planning this can be acheivied?

I will be climbing with Glenn McCrory the ex IBF Crusierweight World Boxing Champion who's brother also had FA and was  the inspiration behind Glenn's autobiography Carrying David.

It this hope of this page that funds can be raised to cover the cost of the trip to allow further fundraising through sponsored walks, bike rides, three peaks challanges, cake sales, gentleman's eveing, auctions, raffles etc where all of the proceeds will go straight to Ataxia UK.
