Kahaila means life in community. It was with this aim to bring life into community that we opened a non profit coffee shop on Brick Lane in 2012.
Over the last 5 years we have been building community through live music events, book clubs, community bring and share meals and more.
The success of the café enabled us to develop innovative responses to some of the social injustices that existed in our local community. These include Reflex, a mentoring and education programme in a women’s prison, Luminary, a bakery to train and support women from vulnerable backgrounds into employment and Ella's Home providing a safe home for women who have suffered sexual exploitation.
The Corporation of the City of London has invited us to run the new community cafe they are building in Aldgate, because they want us to bring the same passion for life in community to impact the diverse communities in and around Aldgate. We are excited about this opportunity to keep building community and to create new ventures that benefit the local community, but we need your help!
What we need
In order to make our new cafe a warm and welcoming environment for the community, we need new furniture, new equipment and some start-up capital to get us going. Your donation will help us get off the ground and ensure we are able to begin investing in future projects as soon as possible.
