New stretch target

We have now reached our target. Thank you so much to all who contributed. We will close the crowdfund soon, but if you would still like to donate, we will use the funds to cover any unanticipated additional consultancy time we might incur.

We are a local community group that has spent the last six months developing plans for a low traffic neighbourhood scheme in our area, including pedestrianising part of Walton Street. We now want to pay a professional consultant to fully review and cost our proposals. We want to be sure that we get the scheme that works best, and that has broad community support.

We are commissioning Chris Proctor, the lead technical consultant on the highly successful Waltham Forest Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme, to fully appraise and cost our proposals. This will ensure that they are high-quality, robust and professional; that all the technical details such as deliveries, parking needs and traffic flows are fully considered; and that they are ready to implement. Chris will also review other schemes that community members have brought forward.  Our full proposals can be found on our website.

We have already persuaded the Council to develop a low traffic neighbourhood in our area. Undertaking this consultancy work will enable them to quickly adopt the ideas and implement a final scheme. Local councillors are offering £1,000 towards our costs and we need to raise the rest.

By donating to this project you will be making the streets of Jericho and Walton Manor safer, quieter and less polluted. You will be supporting our local cafes, pubs and restaurants to spill out onto the street, helping them to win trade during the COVID crisis. Through careful design, our scheme will, not only reduce traffic in the area, giving greater preference to pedestrians and cyclists, but will also distribute it equitably between the remaining streets, ensuring that no single area carries an unfair burden of traffic.

We are actively seeking the views of all members of the community on our proposals, and amending them to meet local needs. Carefully considered, well-consulted proposals in which as many people as possible have had a say stand the greatest chance of success. The final results of the work will be presented to the local community for discussion at our annual general meeting in December, to which everyone is invited, before being given to Oxfordshire County Council.

We are a membership organisation with a committee accountable to its 120 members. We have no bank account, and so all funds raised will be held by local charity Low Carbon Oxford North, who are highly supportive of our aims. Low Carbon Oxford North will provide this service at no charge.

This project offers rewards in return for your donation.
