We want to build a covered stand housing a new electronic scoreboard and dedicate it to the memory of a legend... Jack Morris.

New stretch target

Add seating, disable access, wheelchair viewing platform, lighting, heating, storage. Increase the size. Add hard paving alongside pitches.

A New Beginning.

In 2013, we raised funds to build an impressive extension and the 1923 Project was born. With these funds we extended our facilities creating new changing rooms, studio and physio room. This kick-started a desire to continuously improve our wonderful facility and make it a true heart of the town and its people.

Since then, we invested in the pitches, securing space to add 2 more, giving us 7 playing pitches; improved the drainage and the lighting making it safer and more useable for the players and coaches. We secured a valuable long term, local sponsor in Joules Clothing who have fund new playing strips and invested money in us every year.

Last Summer we successfully raised funds through the RFU and refurbished the entire bar area giving it a fresh, modern look, providing a nicer space for our spectators and guests.

Our members and volunteers have the ambition to keep growing and improving our club and no one was more committed to that than Jack and his brother Selwyn.

The Jack Morris Memorial Stand

Jack was always supportive and enthusiastic of these projects; he was married to the club and loved seeing it cared for and well kept.

Jack’s contribution to our club has been immeasurable and has spanned many years, from helping build the first clubhouse at Gores Lane, captaining the first XV for several years and never missing a match. He spent the last years of his life ensuring we have the best pitches to play on.

To commemorate his contribution in some small way we have decided to dedicate a new scoreboard stand and filming platform to him.

The Jack Morris Memorial Stand is to built between our new dugouts and replaces the existing scoreboard. It will have a filming platform at the top with the current electronic scoreboard incorporated high up into the handrail. It will then provide shelter from the weather and a better view without the sun in our eyes.

Jack was one of our longest serving volunteers, players and members. It would be a fitting tribute to the man to have this project in place for our centenary year in 2023.

Jack Morris - Funeral Arrangements

We have had plans drawn up and estimated costs of £5,000 but the more we can raise the more we can do - possibly adding lighting, seating, a footpath and/or storage underneath.

With Jack's passing, his legacy continues in other ways too. Jack's friends have formed a fabulous team of volunteers who have already been hard at work clearing the clubhouse and pitches and cutting the boundary hedges.  A big “Thank You” goes to all these intrepid members who have been busy ensuring we have fabulous facilities to train and play in.  The work carries on!
