Hello! Welcome to our crowdfunding page and thank you so much for showing your interest in our chilling, chuckle-inducing production. If you, too, are passionate about our short film and would like to donate, we have some brilliant rewards to say thank you for your support.
Written by Caius McCrone, produced by Tommy-Joe Brown, directed by Sophie Sandor and executively produced by the National Youth Film Academy, INTRUSION is a tri-segmented vignette style comedy-drama set in a near-future dystopia that displays the lives of an ensemble cast as they deal with the bizarre reality of their new lives under the overbearing yet elusive powers that be.
INTRUSION expresses the timeless threat of government to our individual freedom, alluding to authoritarianism in its many forms -- from nanny state laws to curtailments on free speech. Depicted in a darkly comedic fashion, it is also an indictment of the current climate and public discourse, not least because it has been conceived in, and partly inspired by, lockdown life!
We initially set a lower target of £5,000 and a "stretch target" of £8,000 to fund the production and post-production of INTRUSION. As all of the work thus far has been carried out during a radical lockdown, and many have fallen upon hard times, we, the cast and crew, initially presented a tentative target, based on the possibility of budgeting in some areas, and raising more funds down line for promotion. We had no idea how it was going to pan out, but we have been incredibly successful. Therefore, we have increased our stretch target to £11,000
We are a collective of young professionals -- at the early stages of our careers in the arts -- based across the UK, whom the National Youth Film Academy has selected to produce and promote a short film as part of its 2020 programme.

In the fictional world of INTRUSION, bizarre forms of control come to light. Sugar is now defined as a Class A drug, there is a "non-essential contact" law designed to prevent procreation, and swearing is banned -- as "swearing breeds anger and anger leads to the decomposition of society".
Everyone is on the brink of becoming a fugitive of the law, as they tentatively struggle to keep abreast of the stifling regulations and the rumours borne by fear that surround those regulations. Nothing spreads like fear...
Whoever is in control always has their reasons. It's for the good of the people, and rulers are always better-placed to know what is best for an individual, right?
INTRUSION is inspired by regimes and politicians, past and present, across the globe, that have sought to frustrate individuals' freedom. It aims to poke fun at, invite criticism of, and raise awareness of the constant creeping threat of such oppression and the various and subtle forms that that can arrive in and be supposedly justified by -- all whilst making viewers laugh!
We were exceptionally well-positioned to develop this concept, living through a government-imposed lockdown and therefore easily able to enter the minds of the characters who are driven crazy by having their desires to do what they once could, or expect they should be able to, thwarted. The humiliation, degradation and sapping of the human spirit that that level of control entails is a reality we also believed crucial to present.
We will use the money that we raise from your kind support via this Crowdfunder campaign to fund our props, shooting location fees, camera and associated equipment costs, costumes, an external actor (who will play the narrator and whom we are hiring in July), marketing and festival applications, and to allow us a contingency fund.
Please see the pie chart below for an overview of how the budget will be proportioned.
Segment I: Who Do You Think You Are?
A young girl, DEVRIM (15), lives alone in a sympathiser’s attic. Whilst she conducts her morning routine - consisting of playing SingStar, deciding what to have for breakfast and trivial conversation with her imaginary friend - an ambitious government agent, MAYA (20s), watches the house, convinced an illegal is being kept in hiding.
Segment II: Dilution
Swear words and all expressions of anger are forbidden. When TAMMY (20s) decides he’s had enough, his rebellious behaviour leads to the deterioration of his relationship with the compliant OLIVIA (20s). As Tammy becomes increasingly anarchic, Olivia turns to their neighbour JOE (20s) for love and support. Tammy suspects foul play, and when Joe turns up at their flat, his paranoia and recklessness leads to trouble.
Segment III: Chocolate Milk
Amidst the backdrop of the recently enacted ‘non-essential contact’ law, FLO (20s) begrudgingly cares for the excessively precocious and highly allergic VIN (20s). As Vin becomes increasingly unbearable and with the encouragement of her friend AZRA (20s), Flo decides to take matters into her own hands and punish Vin for his loyalty to, and collaboration with, the powers that be.
