We had a great rehearsal on Tuesday with seven viols (that's 41 strings!) representing Virgil’s lyre in Cypriano de Rore’s “Dissimulare”, accompanying Jennie Cassidy’s Dido. Amazing music - and an amazing sound. This was the first outing for a new bass just delivered by maker Tim Soar - the latest in the set commissioned by Philip, and an exceptionally beautiful instrument.

Great project - I thoroughly enjoyed playing one of the Ricercars on the Cambridge Renaissance course with David and June a year or two ago. Very intense music.
