Who we are
Savana became a registered charity in 1986, providing life changing support for adults and children from the age of 4 years old who have experienced rape and sexual violence. Our dedicated team of volunteer counsellors and experienced staff work with clients to support them emotionally and practically, talking about their feelings and learning new ways of coping.
What service does an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor provide?
The ISVAs (independent Sexual Violence Advisors) provide the practical support alongside or independently of the counselling service. ISVAs provide support through the criminal justice system, reporting to the police, assistance with housing, education, employment, benefits and other practical needs and help. This support can be crucial in helping individuals to turn their life around and this is evidenced in the feedback we receive.
Our Independent Sexual Violence Advisor service is the only accredited service in North Staffordshire for adults and for children the support extends to the whole of Staffordshire.
Dedicated Child ISVA Service
Going forward Savana feels that we can improve the support to our younger clients using the ISVA service by providing them with a specifically trained CHISVA.
Providing this support to children and young people it is a early action approach and is crucial in helping them move forward and reach their full potential in life. The CHISVA can accompany the child/young person if they have to go to court, can liaise in their educational settings to ensure there is additional support available for them to continue or return to education as well as other practical support mentioned above.
Your help would enable us to provide a dedicated part time Children's Independent Sexual Violence Advisor. Through this service Savana can help children and young people by helping them to build self-esteem, coping mechanisms and life skills as they deal with the effects of sexual violence and give them to tools to go forward into adulthood empowered and with confidence.
