This environmentally friendly project aims to create a stronger, more resilient community by focusing on the growing of local food for local people - free of charge!
2016 sees the launch of a new commuity project in Hook Norton called, Incredible Edible Hooky. It is a long term project. Over and above our aim to create a more resilient community, on a larger scale, the project is also fundamentally targeted at contributing to the reduction of the village's carbon footprint and ensuring a more sustainable future in the face of an ever increasingly unpredictable world.
From small beginnings, which will focus on the planting of raised beds around the village, we aim to expand the Incredible Edible project over time to include many different, interwoven strands, inclusive of a wide range of interested parties, for example, local food producers and businesses, schools and other relevant community groups.
Thus, our long term aims are around finding creative ways, not only to provide for ourselves, but to promote and support local businesses, whilst driving the sharing of skills within the community that relate to the growing, harvesting and cooking of fresh, local produce.
We now need funding to launch phase one of the project, the establishing of three pilot sites. This will be used to buy the materials needed to create the raised beds (wood, screws, topsoil, compost) and signage (so that people know more about the project and what is being grown in the beds, when the food can be harvested etc).
