We did it

The aim of the project is to improve children's mental health through sport.

Using Coach's experience of coaching sport in primary schools for almost 30 years and Claire's 15 years in senior project management, The Sports Project will enhance and extend the provision of PE, sport and physical activity in primary schools.

Through our collaboration with Head Teachers and PE Co-ordinators, we have identified that the main area that schools need help is with the emotional health and well-being of the children. Their mental health is in decline due to a lack of physical activity, low resilience and confidence, and the pressures of school and social media.

Therefore, with the help of our family and friends, we would like to deliver a project, targeting vulnerable and high needs children. Youth Sports Trust has identified that those especially at risk are children who are girls, disabled, in disadvantaged areas and black, Asian and minority ethnic.

In small groups, over five weekly sessions, the children will develop their self-esteem, social connections and psychological strategies through sports sessions combined with mindfulness and soft cognitive behavioural therapy techniques.

We will keep all contributors updated with stories, photos and evidence of development. If anyone wants to come and witness the benefits of the project in person, by watching a session, please feel free to ask.
