Who We Are & Our Vision

Sapphira’s Showgirls presents Ibiza Burlesque Festival

Our Aim

Positivity the practice of being or tendency to be positive or optimistic in attitude. (Google Dictionary, 2017)

Presented by Sapphira’s Showgirls, the Ibiza Burlesque Festival launches in Ibiza on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of October.

We aim to be the burlesque festival of choice creating a premium event on the Island of Ibiza with a focus on empowering people through positive self-expression and creating paid work for performers and teachers to support their talents. Principles of positive thinking, emotional intelligence and environmental awareness are at the backbone of what we do. www.ibizaburlesquefestival.com

The festival launch in 2017 is with partner organisation the Concept Hotel Group, an award-winning chain of 3 designer hotels that has been established on the island since 2011.

Why Burlesque?

Burlesque is a sensual dance featured in cabaret shows with elborate costumes and orginates from comedy and theatre. Thousands of performers and students worldwide have grown their self-confidence through the empowering art of burlesque. With 10 million British women revealing in the Body Confidence Survey that they are depressed about their looks we know this issue touches lives worldwide. We believe everyone can realise new heights of self-discovery and positivity through participating in burlesque events and workshops. With 120 burlesque festivals in 24 countries, it's time to bring a festival to Ibiza!

Why Ibiza?

One of the most popular of the Balearic Islands, over 7 million tourists visit this destination during the peak season of May - October and 80% of those tourists are from the UK. Stars like Dita Von Teese and Paris Hilton have championed the big stage shows on the Island. The event already has interest growing on social media and the main staples of the entertainment industry in Ibiza share our vision that the festival will be popular. This has enabled us to secure hotel partners based on the popular beach Playa D'en Bossa.

Our Legacy

Our founder, Priscilla Silcock, reinvented herself as Sapphira on the London underground cabaret circuit 10 years ago after experiencing a severe bipolar episode. Using the deposit she saved for a house she founded Sapphira’s Showgirls, a dance school in Melbourne and London. Today her team has taught 15,000 women and supported charities.

An early co-founder of the Australian Burlesque Festival www.australianburlesquefest.com which is now in it’s 8th year of success touring to 6 cities, Sapphira has corporate skills in media, PR and sponsorship and signed cosmetics brand Illamasqua to a national sponsorship deal for the festival in 2011. She has since been supported by Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Active and Benefit Cosmetics along with more than 30 SMEs in areas local to her events and classes.

When I was Brand Director of Illamasqua in Australia, Sapphira choreographed and led a team of showgirls in a new collection launch "Theatre of the Nameless" to the press in Sydney. She also created and headlined a live show performed on stage in our Melbourne and Sydney retail spaces. Both events were fabulous. Sapphira grasped the business as well as the creative brief and was flexible and professional throughout.” Trudi Netherwood – Brand Director – Illamasqua Cosmetics
