“Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself, it’s what you do for others” this has been my motto and I have lived by this for the past 21 years. As founder of Fable I have dedicated my life to helping those who are affected by Epilepsy, and have done everything in my power to make sure that Fable offers help and assistance to patients, carers, and family members to enhance their quality of life.
I am Sandra Howard the Founder of Fable Epilepsy Charity and I was admitted to the NGH in November with Pneumonia, I had fluid drained from my left lung. The fluid was sent away for testing and two weeks later I was told the bad news that the fluid in my lung had come back testing positive for abnormal cells, and that they were cancerous.
This set off a chain of events and tests of which I won’t go into other than to say the hospitals didn’t mess around and the tests got done very quickly.
The hospital now suspect after a PET scan that it is a lung primary due to the way the cancer has spread and a biopsy was done to confirm that this was the case. Unfortunately now the cancer is not curable although it can be treated.
The team at Fable Charity, my family and friends are stunned, sad, upset, and angry they never in their wildest dreams thought they would be facing something as devastating as this but then neither did I.
I have helped many people, individuals and families over the years and have raised £3.8 million over 21 years for fable.
For those of you who have never met me but know about Fable charity this little video done for 2015 Tesco Mum of the Year Awards shows the affect fable has had on some people's lives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qdk0AVWMEU
“As I sit and reflect back on my life I realise for the most part it has been a battle. We fought to get the best possible treatment, schooling, placements for our epileptic son Gareth. I have battled Crohn’s for over 30 years and now I am battling cancer that is no longer curable but can be treated. When I started Fable 21 years ago I with the help of others I battled to make it the best charity we could and help make a difference for those affected by epilepsy. I have worked tirelessly for 21 years as a volunteer devoting my time and effort to fable but now as I wage my own war I will not be able to devote as much time as I would like to raising the money necessary to allow fable to continue and make wishes and dream a reality for those affected by epilepsy or provide the much needed seizure alert bed alarms that are so vital for many families and could possible save a life. I would like your help to keep fable benefitting those affected by epilepsy. If you can please help me make a difference while I can and long after by pledging your support to raise funds for fable or by making a donation I would be very grateful and I thank you from the bottom of my heart
I would appreciate any donation, however small as 90% will go towards fable making a difference. If you would like to raise funds for the charity, by either organising your own fundraising event such as a dress down day at work, cake sale, sponsored activity or by running a marathon, whatever you feel you can do to help us make a difference, please contact our Operations Manager Sarah Osborne-Green on 01142755-335 or email Sarahemail@example.com for her help and support
10% of the money raised will be used to finance a number of holistic therapy treatments and to finance complimentary medicines which will play a part in helping me battle the biggest fight of my life.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support." Sandra Howard OLM
