Making public spaces safer Making public spaces safe for all, inclusion without fear.

by HPSSU in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England

HPSSU – a community programme designed to make community spaces safer day and night.
1. Community watch in public spaces, our version of neighbourhood watch, ready to support the community’s day and night alike.
2. Our public space first aid team will work in outdoor spaces when they are busy during hot and cold weather, supporting the welfare of their communities.
3. Streetscene Safety – a team of stewards and or SIA trained staff, looking after public spaces, gathering info from the community to enable controlling antisocial behaviour, trying to combat vandalism, identifying dangers before they become an issue. Providing a reassurance to the public, available mostly by day but responding on a night. Making communities safer for all.

Building engagement in the Humber communities, empowering the people to take back their communities and letting EVERONE feel safe to enjoy public spaces.

We will work morning noon and night, all seasons and all weathers, ours is a long-term goal. We aim to be here for the people for as long as they want us.

When we invest we invest in practical things: Communications Equipment, Ambulance, Response Vehicle, Mobile Treatment Unit, Medical Equipment, uniforms, training and furniture/technology.

We invest in things we need to fully and adequately be in multiple places and quickly, our team’s safety is as important as that of the public.
We need support to create and establish our 5-year goal, can you kindly help us to help others.

We estimate a running cost anually of around £6000, a lot but as low as we can make it.

None of the team are paid, we currently fund the project out of our own money, we now want to make the project sustainable for the long term.
