Mentoring the next generation

Crowdfunder is working with Humanade, a charity that empowers and mentors the younger generation to set them on the kind of career path that changes the world – particularly conservation, environment, human rights and economic injustice.

Just this year, four young adults, Claire, Amy, Chris and Neirin, have been working with Humanade on The Dead Innocents project, supporting those who have been failed by the legal processes in the US justice system.

Check out their inspiring stories below and support their project to get them to America, where they will continue their work with those who have been treated with injustice.

"Thanks to my dad’s fantastic music taste, I grew up listening to Pink Floyd. Whether it was his intention or not, this is one of the reasons I have always felt a need to question those in positions of power; and, of course, the so-called ‘justice’ system.

I have had the opportunity to explore this further during my Human Rights Law Master’s at the University of Bristol, which has made me more determined to fulfil a career in human rights."

My experience as a Student Advisor at the University of Bristol Law Clinic is the main inspiration for my involvement in The DIP.

Between December 2019 and July 2020, in my final year at University, I successfully challenged a decision made by Kingston Council- that my client was not entitled to permanent housing because they had made themselves "intentionally homeless".

I am Chris Walters; a writer, student, and part of a team of Human Rights researchers working on the project whom believe we have identified several such cases where people may have been unjustly put to death.

As the fourth and final year of my engineering degree drew to a close in London, it occurred to me that I would like to dedicate the next chapter of my life to tackling more socially relevant problems.

With this in mind, I reached out to human rights attorney Clive Stafford-Smith and embarked on the Dead Innocents Project alongside researchers from around the world.
