We want to start to develop our playground space to provide seating and shelter. This will make the playground a more interesting and enjoyable area as well as maximising the opportunities for use. If further funds are raised we would like to refresh and update the playground to include play equipment and creative, imaginative and fun markings to encourage different types of play.
The school council have been integral in the planning of this project and the design will be pupil led. The exact design for the classroom and playground will depend upon the precise funds raised and the availability of local, environmentally conscious affordable materials. We have sought advice as to the options available to us to meet our needs and optimise the space we have available.
We have undertaken an audit of play and the children have considered what they would like their playground to look like to benefit all the children and to appeal to the community when they visit our premises.
We are a school very much in the heart of the community. The playground area and outside space are used to host fairs and events that are open to the wider community. We organise an annual strawberry tea party which is extremely popular particularly with the residents of our local nursing home, as well as Christmas and Summer Fairs, which are open to all.
The playground is also used by after school clubs. The extra playground structure will help us develop opportunities for future clubs as well as provide much needed seated and covered area for our outdoor community events.
Our play audit highlighted that the children wanted a space where they could sit and read, undertake crafts and sit with friends which was sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the main play area.
The outside areas are also used for sports activities to ensure that the children are given opportunity to have healthy exercise. The structure is a good space for resting, group and 1:1 reflection and discussion.
Our project is to build a structure to strengthening our school community, invoke opportunities for using it as well as attracting more to our facilities.
