Honk! United is a worldwide day of community action through the music and dance of 1,000 street bands on Saturday 10th October on every continent (apart from Antarctica!).
Bradford's much loved street band the Peace Artistes will be playing somewhere in Bradford, live streamed across the world as part of Honk! United. Follow the Peace Artistes on Facebook or Twitter for live stream links.
We are playing to bring peace and joy to the people of Bradford, but also to raise money for Bradford City of Sanctuary and BIASAN as an act of solidarity and support for refugees and asylum seekers who have faced many additional hardships during the Covid crisis. Usually we would busk, but in these strange times a crowd funder is less risky.
Please donate what you can.
Bradford City of Sanctuary exists to generate an environment of safety and hospitality in the City. They identify gaps in support, connect people to places, promote and host events as well as advocate and educate for a fair, equal and diverse society. They aim to create a city that is more inclusive and welcoming, where those seeking sanctuary can enrich our city, and be recognised for their contribution. More information here.
BIASAN (Bradford Immigration and Asylum Seekers Support and Advice Network) provides support, befriending and signposting to asylum seekers and refugees. Usually their activities include a weekly drop in, English classes and a women's club as well as one-off activities such as residential, seaside trips, music fund-raisers, talks and discussions. In Covid times they are providing food deliveries, phone calls and online classes. More information here.
