I am raising donations to purchase educational books from Usborne to put into activity packs for disadvantaged families in Frome.

by Naysha Gane in Frome, England, United Kingdom

My name is Naysha and I am a local Childminder and Usborne Organiser.

I have been working Purple Elephant Charity in Frome, to contribute educational activity books to go into educational packs for disadvantaged families in our town, of which there are sadly over 800 families.

The charity have bought some books from me for these packs directly at a 20% discount.

I would like to crowdfund to be able to provide more books for disadvantaged children in Frome who are having to learn from home during lockdown without the charity needing to use their funds to buy them.

As an Usborne Organiser I would ordinarily receive a 24% commission on any books I buy. I will not be taking my commission for these books. Instead any commissions owed to me I will use to buy more books for the charity.

Please support me to raise funds to buy as many books as possible so that no child in our town will be left behind.

Purple Elephant is a small charitable organisation based in Frome who run free support services for local families and children. While Frome has a reputation as an affluent and creative town, it hides pockets of significant deprivation and is surrounded by villages which suffer from rural isolation. Purple Elephant work to support all local families but especially the vulnerable and disadvantaged, and those with additional needs. Frome now has over 800 children who qualify for free school meals and 2 wards where 25% of children are living in poverty.

Purple Elephant run projects which support children of all ages - Frome Toy Library, Small Steps parent support, a befriending service, family activities during school holidays (in partnership with Fair Frome) and, in normal times, Frome Children's Festival. During Covid they have been hard at work delivering free resources to vulnerable families, now focusing on providing educational play resources to children who struggle to engage with homeschooling.
