School holidays can be stressful for families - trying to entertain children without massive expense. Halton Play Council have delivered Playschemes for many years. We aim to offer a community based inclusive service where children can play and be safe. This helps the local community by reducing anti social behaviour and by providing families with a local, low cost, enjoyable activity. We have a team of playworkers who are all trained annually in aspects of play, safeguarding and behaviour management. They all hold an enhanced DBS and the regular playschemes are OFSTED registered.
We operate in buildings which have an inside and outdoor play area - we promote socialisation skills through play and activities - and we are a gadget free zone! We try to involve other local groups to visit our playschemes so that children can have a "taster" session of other community activities - ie cheerleading, rugby, drama etc.
We get lots of feedback from parents on our Facebook page:-
1) I found out about the playscheme from a friend just days before it started and have brought my nephew (age 7) to almost every session. I would like to say a huge thank you to all concerned for organising such a fabulous opportunity for the kids of Halton. It has made such a difference to what might have been a boring, sat in front of the telly time for them all. My special thanks goes to Mike and the team at Hough green who made S welcome and have filled his holiday from school with happy memories, thank you
2) The playscheme this year has excelled itself again.. Variety of the activities has been brilliant, the staff are friendly, approachable and welcoming. My brood of three have loved every session and when asked if they have had a good time... They have said 'no.... They've had a fantastic time'. Happy kids equals a happy mum. Well done on a fabulous service
3) I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am for the play scheme, I would be lost this holiday without it! I have 3 boys who attended the scheme one whom is disabled. They just love it, my boys are all different and extremely lively! The team of staff are so caring and attentive meeting all my boys needs. As a parent and a foster carer, I am so impressed. X is a great team leader there and very efficient , I love his updates of the day they all have had. K who my C has a soft spot for is brilliant too. L again my B loves, I could go on and on the lads and young ladies are all just brilliant!
Use of Funds
We are constantly asked to deliver more schemes is more locations. We have the resources and the staff to do this- we also recruit on an annual basis and have plenty of applicants. We just need the funds. To deliver 1 week of playschemes of 10 sessions for 25 children to attend each session would cost approximately £2800 - thats just £11 per child for 2.5 hours of fun and play - and all the family is asked to contribute is a donation of £1 per session.
