We're asking for £6000 so we can revamp our front entrance, making The Hive a more inviting, welcoming and accessible space for everyone.
You might be thinking "it's just a door". To us, and everyone who comes through it, it's a gateway.
A gateway that can lead to positive change in many people's lives, give them the confidence to try new things, empower them to make choices, provide opportunities to develop new skills, offer a space for them to be themselves, make new friends and most importantly feel safe.

We know from feedback that our front entrance is a barrier to people accessing The Hive because it is dated, uninviting and has a big unwelcoming buzzer – which as our video demonstrates, is not reflective of The Hive AT ALL!
So we're asking you to please invest in our future so we can continue to invest in other people's futures. Keep The Hive at the heart of your community.

The Hive is a charity organisation and we receive no core funding, which means we don't have the funds to make these kind of changes to the building as all our money is used on the amazing projects we run across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. That's why we're asking for your support!
With your investment we can improve people’s first impressions of The Hive to encourage even more people to visit and enjoy the abundance of creativity we provide, whether that's through our charity projects or through people using the venue for film, gigs and everything else we offer!
We want The Hive to be used as a community space long after our current staff team have moved on to pastures new or retired to a colony on Mars.
We believe this is the start to making that happen and you're the key to making it a reality.

"It makes you feel that you’re not alone; you get to know other people – you’re not the only one and there are other people like you. I enjoy coming here." - Music Project Participant
In the last two years alone we've worked on projects with Young Carers, Hope House Hospice, Refugee Action and many more.

About The Hive
The Hive is a charity organisation based in the heart of Shrewsbury Town Centre, with a goal of changing lives through creativity. In the last 14 years The Hive has worked with over 38,000 people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin providing creative opportunities for them to develop new skills, form new friendships and improve their confidence. Many of these are disadvantaged children and young people and The Hive is a homely environment where they feel safe and protected.
Arts Council England Match Funding
In 2016 we were awarded match funding by Arts Council England until August 2019. This means that all fundraising activities, like this one, can be match funded. So, when we reach our target of £6,000 Arts Council England will also give us £6,000. To break this down further. If you invest £50 to this project, this is actually worth £100 at no extra cost to you! What’s not to like?
How exactly will you spend the money I donate?
The money you invest will be spent on revamping our front entrance, making it more welcoming, inviting and accessible to everybody. As we are a listed building, we are unable to make any structural changes to our curbside door, all of the changes will be aesthetic and will start with our entrance door (the ugly grey door with wired glass and a loud buzzer, pictured above.) The more money we raise, the more we can do!
Don’t you already have funding to make improvements like this?
The Hive receives no core funding and all projects we run, improvements we make and activities/events we put on are funded through donations and trusts and foundations. As a result we do not have any funding to make these improvements. Many of The Hive's facilities were built between the 1960s and 1980s, so they are badly in need of improvement.
When will the work start on renovating the building if you reach your target?
When we reach our target, we aim for the work to start on the entrance in 2019.
Isn’t The Hive just a venue for gigs and films?
Many people in the community know The Hive as a venue for gigs, films, talks and workshops. However, The Hive’s primary function is a charity organisation providing charity projects to disadvantaged groups of people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin in order to inspire meaningful change in their lives.
Is The Hive a joint organisation with other organisations across the country?
Although there are other organisations across the UK called The Hive (some who do very similar work to us) The Hive in Shropshire is a unique, independent, one-off organisation that is not affiliated with any other organisation.
