- Having purchased jacconaise prior to UK lockdown #1, march 2020, with the intension of sympathetically restoring her, the hull was found to be in much poorer condition than anticipated and a plan to take her out of the water was agreed.
Following a successful , non eventful lift and delivery to a dry hardstanding , the vessel was secured , made safe and preparation for repair works initiated.
Disastrously, somehow, or by someone, the vessel suffered a localised fire, caused by either an electrical fault, or arson. We will never know. The outcome is the same, the cause will always remain uncertain.
The damage done was not insignificant, and although the window frames, roof lights, interior and all wooden elements were lost or damaged, the beautiful hull and superstructure remained somewhat unaffected.
What was lost, wasn't of too much historical merit, and on reflection, the window frames , the steel behind the window frames, the single glazed panes , the tired roof lights, would have all required repair or replacement anyway!! Of course there's are some elements that are irreplaceable, but an opportunity has now arisen to rebuild this boat to a modern contemporary design from the keel up , albeit adding to the budget.
So far I have cleaned her up inside and out, and made her presentable. Cut out the exposed rusted window bottoms, Prepared for some repairs and painted the hull and cabin inside a s out. . Obtained repair sections and fabricated many parts and plates.
I need to finish all the elements associated with the original plan, and additionally , the extra elements lost following the damage.
funders, the opportunity to win a week's stay aboard jacconaise upon completion will be a prize well worth entering through a random prize draw conducted internally.
