I am an animal lover, as so many of us in the UK are. I have had pets since I was little and have always loved being around animals of all kinds. After being made redundant from a sales executive role earlier this year, I decided I would quit the 'rat race' and do something I actually enjoy - so I started Hound & Home, a company that offers pet sitting and boarding services.
Having lived on a very low income myself, I know what a struggle it is when you have pets to think of too. It's not just food, it's money for vet bills, money for petrol or taxis to take them to appointments, grooming, and even sometimes finding the time to walk them when your circumstances have changed or are in a state of flux.
In these situations, many people may think the best option is to give their pets up. A heart breaking decision for any pet owner, but when you are living in poverty, struggling with long term illness, or any other isolating situation your pets can sometimes be your lifeline.
With more and more evidence coming to light about the emotional and physical benefits of having pets, giving them up in a difficult period of your life is not only counter-productive for you, it also puts a strain on the animal rescues that will take your pets in, and causes unnecessary distress for the animals themselves.
I hope to support those living in financial difficulty by setting up this fund. With the money raised I will provide:
- Doggy day care
- Pet sitting
- Pet taxi and appointment escort services
- Support with vet bills
And any other pet-related help that might be required.
This project calls on all animal lovers to donate what they can to help others care for their pets during a difficult time in their lives.
