To raise £1000000 to build a suitable dwelling to help retiring service dogs become suitable for rehoming

by samjames_942 in Chelmsford, England, United Kingdom

Hi, I'm Samantha James, I spent 5 years as a dog handler in the army, during that time I was deployed to Afghan with my search dog Stikky. Upon returning from ops, Stikky was surplus to requirements along with many other dogs. If I was not willing to rehome Stikky, sadly he would of been euthanaised.  A lot of people think that only handlers can rehome military dogs but a lot of the dogs can be rehomed to civilians. The military doesnt have the time or resources to advertise or keep these dogs until they find a home so sadly many are euthanaised or rushed out the door with little desensitiastion training which means they may struggle in civilian life. The aim of the charity Hero Paws is to set up a dwelling that is suitable to rehabilitate these dogs for as long as they need to be able to be successful in civilian life. I am very passionate about this project as many dogs deserve the chance of a happy retirement after their service.
