With more and more awareness in the world surrounding healthy lifestyle, environmental issues and people turning to plant base produce - there are far too many people with not enough information who desperately want the support.
As a woman of 28 years, born meat free and for the most part, plastic free. I took out on a venture to set up my own blog which explores the countryside, nature and wildlife around us. This blog took off and my social media has grown to over 30k followers in the last year, with many women feeling alone, isolated and reaching out to me for support on growing produce, going meat free or wanting to adopt pets from rescue centres.
Because of this, I have decided to put into place a magazine (both online and printed) to support people with small business in the countryside making a change to the way we live aimed at ages 18-45.
I believe there is opportunity to shout about and support those women working in farming, be those farms hemp based, flower based or chilli farms. They're out there and I've met them and we need to encourage more women to go into these industries to support our future. As well as this, there is opportunity to support small businesses and dreams by telling peoples stories, sharing their experiences and promoting their products in a magazine that focuses purely on small and organically sourced business.
As part of the magazine, I would want to focus on supporting the adoption of rescue animals, be those dogs, cats, horses or even hamsters to encourage a brighter future for not just us and wildlife, but for domesticated pets too.
This platform will support, encourage, offer advice and courses on how to get started in countryside and look after your garden, grow vegetables and support local charities.
A number of areas that we will look at in this magazine, will be:
- Vegan and Vegetarian recipes / support and suggestions
- Arable farming (organically)
- Shopping second hand and through small business
- Wildlife in the garden, home and city
- How to grow plants (both in a flat and house)
- Wildlife and animal charity support and conservation (free articles)
- Going plastic free and shopping on a budget
- Sustainable everyday items
- Coastal living - saving our coastlines / beaches and oceans
- Small businesses - article on how women get started and maintain it
- Mental health and wellbeing from getting outside / making changes
Whilst my magazine will not be a charity, I will look at supporting UK based charities within certain areas each month with their own articles. At the moment, there is not one magazine offering a place to talk, support and get information from about all of the above.
Alongside this, I would look to setup a website that gives free newsletters (via email) and a space for people to talk and ask questions (perhaps on Facebook).
Overall, this is an idea that I am looking forward to perusing as it will bring women together to support one another in a unique and exciting change to our world, I would really appreciate any support you can offer.
