I'm going to Rwanda with as many baby clothes, school supplies & toothbrushes as I can carry!

by Holly McCarthy in Croydon, England, United Kingdom

It has been a year to the weekend since I completed the National Three Peaks Challenge and 4 years since we were mid year through raising £10,000 for WWPD. So I think it is about time for a new venture and to find new people needing help.

In November I will be visiting Rwanda with a team from BCC church. The church have worked hard to install a new sanitation system & sponsoring children to ensure that they get a proper education and healthcare.

Ever since learning about the 1994 genocide, Rwanda is somewhere that has sat heavy on my heart. I have always wanted to visit and find ways to help. I joined BCC in October 2018 and it was then that I learned about their involvement supporting projects in Rwanda, so when the opportunity came up to go and see the amazing work they are already doing, I couldn't resist.

During my trip I will be visiting sponsor children in their homes & hosting a fun day for them, visiting child survivor programs which look after mums with babies who have survived illness, viewing the progress of the sanitation project, meeting with students in the Leadership Development Program as well as attending church associations with partner projects. I will also be visiting the Genocide Memorial whilst I am out there which I'm sure will be quite an eye opener.

My aim is to raise as much money as possible so that I can take out with me gift bags for all of the children containing items such as clothing, flannels, toothbrushes, skipping ropes etc & also bundles for the mums & babies with clothes, nappies, comforters and anything else anyone thinks of that could make a difference or put a smile on a child's face. I already have one extra 24kg suitcase that I can take with me but if I manage to get enough I can book to take more, so please get donating! Whilst I am out there I hope to be able to find more ways in which I can help those who need it most so any surplus funds are put to the best use possible helping those who need it the most.

If you would prefer to purchase items directly, I have set up an amazon wish list that will get the items sent directly to me. Just follow this link!

I really appreciate your support!
