Help us feed 500 families from marginalised communities that are most vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 in Guatemala City

by RESI in London, England, United Kingdom

Hi, I'm Tracy I'm a Guatemalan designer based in London. I am part of RESI - Immediate Solidarity Network, which came together in March 2020 to safeguard good health and food security for vulnerable families during and after the COVID-19 crisis.

We are now a growing network of more than 50 volunteers organised to provide nutritional and health support to 500 vulnerable families in marginal urban settlements of the Metropolitan Area in Guatemala City, that live in extreme poverty and scavenge through the landfill to find recycling goods to sell and survive. With this help, we not only support families facing severe economic difficulties, but we are also reducing their need to go out every day to work and risk getting infected with Covid-19.

The money we raise will be used to help buy basic food baskets for those families. We are working in partnership with 10 community-based organisations.

Each food basket is valued at £45/€50/$60 and it contains food products that guarantee the nutritional security of a family for a full month.

The cost to sponsor the food supply for a family for 8 months is £360 / $480 / €400

For the second consecutive month we have delivered 540 food baskets for 3 partner organisations, which means we have helped 3,200 people in Guatemala City, living and working in vulnerable conditions.

We are now hoping to raise more money and we need all the help we can get!

Nutritional support now can ensure minimum health and food security conditions for the coming months.
