Right Now for children - Back to School Campaign
Our Back to School campaign is trying to get 500 children in India back to school. Children who face considerable challenges in going to school. Across India children aren’t going to school because of the distance of schools to their homes, the cost of uniforms and books, poor quality teaching or because they need to work or look after siblings. This means that within India
- 19% of school age children are out of school
- Whilst children enrol at school they often don’t attend – at any one time 25% of enrolled children don’t attend
- 30% of girls and boys drop out of secondary school
The children that Right Now for children work with have experienced considerable challenges in their lives.
Children who have lost their parents, been abandoned or are living in extreme poverty and for whom previously school often came second to earning a living or surviving. Right Now for children supports these children through our family strengthening programmes and children's homes. As part of our work we want to support 500 children in going to school.
Children like Nita and Rose who lost their parents to HIV, and who are living with their elderly grandparents. School gives them opportunities and hope for the future but the costs of school can make it difficult for them to attend. £5 will buy a complete school uniform including shirt, tie, trousers or skirt so that children like Nita and Rose get back to school.
We want to equip 500 children with a new school uniform, books, bags and learning materials for the new school year, and we want to bridge the gap between poor quality teaching and low achievement by providing catch up tutors to help children realise their potential.
With your help………we can
- £5 will buy a child a complete school uniform, including a shirt, tie, trousers or a skirt
- £5 will equip a child with books and learning materials for the year
Together we can help children go to school and stay there, helping children realise their potential
