We are a registered charity (SC046191) made up of 6 trustees who wish to save and regenerate Helensburgh Pier, especially as A&B Council said in their 10 year report for piers and harbours that they would be spending £0 on Helensburgh Pier. Our aims are to regenerate the pier, dredge the pierhead, install pontoons in the east side of the pier.
We need to produce a Feasibility Study costing £20,000 to allow the project to proceed onto the next stage, to date we have raised just over £13,500.
The pierhead desperately needs dredging to around 2 metres to allow craft such as the PS Waverley to still be able to berth at the pier, if it's not dredged there is a real possibility that the Waverley may not berth at Helensburgh in 2019 due to the lack of depth of water and the condition of the pier.
We are also looking at installing pontoons to enable the likes of tenders from the cruise ships passengers berthed at Greenock Ocean Terminal to be transferred to Helensburgh which could make the same difference to our town as the new pontoons at Oban has for their businesses and town.
