Imagine your life without being able to read or write. What would be different? What would you miss the most?
Literacy is a crucial skill for escaping poverty, yet many people in Zaatari do not have access to literacy building opportunities. In fact, a needs assessment of Zaatari Village that we conducted in February 2018 showed that 55% of Syrian and 43% of Jordanian respondents could not read and write in Arabic.
At our centre we are providing Arabic, Maths and English classes to approximately 75 Syrian children between four and fifteen years of age. Because of the conflict in Syria, displaced children have missed out on vital years of education. To prevent them from becoming a lost generation and ensure they have access to decent life opportunities, we are helping to build their basic literacy skills.
In order to continue our programs, we are in need of funding to ensure the coverage of our basic costs, such as stationery, maintenance of the site, logistics and stipends for the local teachers from the community.
