Happy new year - & we’re on a roll already!
After a quiet festive break, it has been an incredibly exciting start of the year for the Feminist Library move campaign with lots of coverage which has helped us reach places far and wide, and new supporters! We have reached over £36,000 by now, thanks to just 840 fabulous supporters like you! By now, we have covered all the basic move and fit out costs - and now we need your help spreading the word to raise another £10,000 for all of the other costs needed so that we can build a truly beautiful new home for the Library.
In just the first 10 days of 2019, our move campaign has had several new highlights. Our story was covered by the Bookseller, the Guardian, BBC Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio London Drivetime and Smithsonian Magazine. We were also mentioned in this fab Buzzfeed article about zines!
This week, we have also met with our amazing feminist designers, makers and architects team to look at some graphic design aspects of the new space, colours, and material samples. We had an amazing meeting - and welcomed a new member to the team: graphic designer Anna Lincoln - which helped us visualise the new space much better. It’s going to be an amazing feminist space, in so many ways! We’re share some pictures as soon as we can. For the moment, it’s all still work in progress.
On top of all this, over the past week, we have sorted through thousands of books and periodicals to get the Library collections ready for the move, but before that, the first stage of the build. We had about 50 volunteers in over the weekend, many of them new, and lots came back to help out during the week too!
We are amazed at and incredibly grateful for all the support that we’ve received throughout the campaign.
The collections are now mostly in boxes, but you can come visit them in our new home from Spring 2019 onwards. Exact dates to be confirmed.
And to add to all the excitement, we have decided to have our next AGM on our 44th birthday, 14th March, along with a bit of a celebration afterwards. The venue remains to be confirmed, as we’re still finalising the timelines for the move, but we’re hoping to be able to have it in the new space if all goes well!
We would like to take this opportunity to extend another massive thank you to all our incredible supporters, volunteers, new and old, everyone who has helped us spread the word and covered our story. This has been an amazing journey, which would not have been possible without you all!
Please note that all the Crowdfunder rewards have been sent out on our list before Christmas. If you haven’t received your reward yet, please do get in touch and let us know.
