Flamingo Carnival Arts was formed in 1983 by Martha Fevrier, and since then has participated in carnivals and street festivals across the UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We became a registered charity in 2007.
"Our ambition is to take our art and culture to every continent in the world. I have actively forged links with local communities, using the creativity of carnival to revitalise the local area and providing work experience for young people and adults. We organise school and community workshops and assist other communities to develop their own carnivals."
Our work involves people from all ethnic backgrounds, not just those from the Caribbean. Based in West London we have participated for over 30 years in the renowned Notting Hill Carnival, the biggest carnival in Europe. In 2015 we were judged "Best in Carnival" out of scores of participating bands from across the world, and have achieved many more awards over the years.
Sadly Arts Council funding has been dramatically cut in recent years and we struggle to survive, with costs increasing each year. But with your help we will be able to set up a permanent studio workshop again in which to run our carnival workshops and community activities and have somewhere to store our costumes and equipment. We will be able to continue to achieve great results for communities and youngsters being creatively involved in the joy of carnival and bring colour and vitality into their deprived lives.
Please pledge what you can as every pound will be spent to improve the lives of others.
