Help our Hut
Who are we
Established in 1886 situated just a quarter of a mile from the A470 Abercynon provides rugby for teams at all levels. This includes Senior, junior (13-17) and minis (5-12).
At senior level the club First XV is playing in the WRU Swalec League and are ably backed up by our development, Youth and under 16 teams.
Abercynon R.F.C. was founded in 1886 around the time that the village of Abercynon began to expand. The side during this time drew heavily on the miners who worked in the local colliery and the men would very often come straight from working their shift underground and play a match turning up in their coal covered working clothers and faces.
The side played rugby in Abercynon almost continually until the outbreak of World War 2 in 1939 and during this time Abercynon R.F.C did not function. Abercynon R.F.C was reformed after the war in 1948.
In 1969 our first Rugby Club house was opened in Margaret Street in the center of Abercynon. In 1986 we saw the completion of our new club house at Y Parc
Mini & Junior Section.
Abercynon RFC has a thriving mini and junior Section, we cater for ages from 5 to 17.
We offer Rugby training sessions to boys and girls throughout the week, with regular match fixtures on the weekend.
Abercynon Rugby Club is a Community club, where not only can you improve your sporting skills and fitness levels, but also make friends, and build relationships for the future.
People who come and watch Abercynon will know the hut. It provides snacks and hot and cold drinks for all matches, and provides that crucial hot cup of tea or coffee for all our early morning mini and junior games.
What you may not know is that all the profits from the hut go straight into the mini and junior section
The hut is staffed by volunteers who give up their weekends to keep it going.
The money raised from the hut is vital to us keep the children in kit,to provide equipment to help their development, and for the ongoing training of coaches, referees and first aid personnel
The past 2 years Has been difficult for the Hut, the floods caused damage to the flooring, the electricity supply and the electrical equipment.
The corona-virus and subsequent lock downs have meant we have been unable to open the hut which has lead to a lack of much needed funding coming into the junior section.
Not only do we sell refreshments out of the hut we also use it to store and to distribute kit, which consists of new and pre-loved donations. We now have a lack of space within the hut.
How will the money be spent
We are looking to crowdfund to make improvements to the hut:
- to add extra storage space, in the form of a new unit.
- to make repairs to the flooring and electrics
- To improve the food preparation area and equipment so we can offer a better range of refreshments people attending matches.
Please Help Us
We hope with these improvements we can increase what we do in the hut, and be able to offer more to our customers.
By making these improvements we hope to secure a brighter future not only for the hut but for our mini and junior section as a whole.
