Hello, my name is Rosida. I am an asylum seeker, and I am not allowed to work for the moment. Despite this I want to stay active and keep improving my skills.
This year I have been doing Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy and I have just found out I passed the course. I have learnt skills like swedish body massage, hot stone body massage, electro-therapy, and facial massage. I have already completed Level 1 and Level 2 Beauty Therapy, I am now hoping to go into my fourth year.
If I was able to do the fourth year of the course, I would be qualified as a beauty therapists and I would be able to be a manager (once given permission to work). I have already used the skills I have learnt for community projects. I have used these skills directly; such as when volunteering with old people, but also as a way to help fundraise for refugee organisations.
I first claimed asylum in 2012 and I am still waiting for a decision. It has not been easy, I have been homeless at times and continue to struggle with being destitute. Despite all the difficulties that I have faced, being able to study Beauty therapy has given me skills for the future, but has also given me a point of focus, which helps relax my mind and helps me not to focus only on my situation.
Next year the Level 4 diploma will no longer be offered by Colleges and instead will be taught at universities. It is likely that I would not be able to afford to pay once this happens, so it is really important that I am able to do the course this year.
In my spare time I volunteer cooking for the homeless, visiting elderly people, taking them to their medical appointments and often do their nails giving them manicures and pedicures. I also volunteer at a convent where I sometimes cut nuns' hair and give them pedicures. I also volunteer at my church.
In total I need to raise £3643, which covers my tuition fees, examination and registration fees, and the fees for materials, resources and equipment. Any contribution you could make would be greatly appreciated in helping me complete my training.
