In 2017, I made the best decision of my life - to pursue acting.
Prior to that, acting has always been something I knew I wanted to do but didn’t know where to begin. Having focused so much on the logistics and the ‘how’, I forgot how it made me feel and why I really wanted this career.
With my life, I want to be able to tell stories that heal and resonate with people. These stories do not always have to be profound or revolutionary on the surface. But regardless I want each and every one to evoke curiosity or a feeling from the audience that is utterly undeniable. These curiosities and these feelings are fuel that will start conversations and may inspire people to not only make art themselves but to help, heal and grow.
So since leaving university, in my first term to follow this goal, I have been very fortunate to say the least. I have been involved in the Young Ensemble at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, The Old Vic Summer School, courses at The National Theatre as well as some short films.
After four rounds of auditioning and out of 1000 people who applied I was offered a place to join the National Youth Theatre’s REP Company. Being a part of the senior intake course last year, was one of the joys of my life so to find out I will be in that environment again is a true blessing.
NYT’s Alumni include:
- Chiwetel Ejiofor
- Dame Helen Mirren
- Daniel Craig
- Matt Smith
- Orlando Bloom
- David Oyelowo
- Daniel Day-Lewis
REP is a free training course where we’ll work alongside industry professionals as well as being given the opportunity to perform three shows on the West End. It is a full time schedule, featuring 6-7 day weeks over a period of 9 months. It is a massive opportunity and i'm so thankful to be able to be a part of it.
But the reality is that, due to it’s demanding nature, I will struggle to be able to work meaning that I am in need of some finance help.
We all know London is rudely expensive so all the money raised will go towards supporting my cost of living.
Though I do live with my mum, I have continuously financially contributed to the household, helping with council tax, bills etc. But with me not being able to work substantially for the next 9 months there will now only be one source of income, so donations will go to this as well.
Food: £25/pw x 9 months £900
Bills: £350/pm x 9 months £3150
Truly, anything will help. So whatever you can offer would be invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time out to read this and I’d love it if you could share this.
