I'm Skye, I'm a romance author from Helensburgh and I'm fundraising to become a British citizen and finally make this officially my home.
I moved to Scotland from Europe in September 2010 to study at the University of Stirling. Since then, I've completed a degree, worked for a government agency and a university, travelled all across Scotland and the British Islands and recently started a Masters degree in Highland and Island Culture.
The majority of my novels are set in Scotland and I love our culture, history and people. I feel Scottish, but I never felt the need to make it official. Now, however, with Brexit looming and the threat of the rights of EU citizens being curtailed, I am going to apply for British citizenship. This is my home and I want to make sure I'll be able to stay here no matter what, no matter how policy changes in the next few years.
The cost for British citizenship is high:
- £65 to get settled status
- £50 Life in the UK test (compulsory)
- £1,330 citizenship application fees
That kind of money is not something I budgeted for, so now I'm fundraising in the hope that I will be able to fulfil my dream of getting British citizenship before it's too late.
Should I raise more money than required, it will be donated to a charity in Nepal that I'm supporting and through which I'm sponsoring a young girl to help her go to school and get regular meals.
