Help me raise funds to pay Jo's tutition, to help her supervise counsellors and keep giving back to our community.

New stretch target

With any extra money, Jo could also buy any necessery materials for her course, pay for travelling costs in getting to and from University, and put money towards the bills associated with running her own business.

I know Joanne Dore as my partner's mother, confident and friend; but most know her as their counsellor - a friendly face who invariably dedicates her time to helping others by providing a safe place to ‘land’, pause and discover space and healing that helps them to move on.

Incredibly, despite difficult financial and personal struggle, Jo completed her undergraduate degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with First Class Honours and the highest dissertation grade on her course, aged 62. Unfortunately, Student Finance UK does not support anyone over the age of 60, and so despite clear academic skill, she was unable  to apply for a masters or PHD course. Instead, she chose to start giving back to the community and began her own practice - Landings. Even though she was now the main wage earner, Jo charged clients on a pay-what-you-can basis, enabling those dealing with financial difficulties to recieve the help they needed. Supporting her husband through art university as he recovered from a period of physical health issues and depresssion, and giving what little was left over to help us out, she also worked for her University's counselling team in order to support students.

A decade of turbulent times have lead to her and Phil (her husband) renting a house - unable to save for a deposit on a mortgage. A few months ago, Jo stopped being offered  continuous work at the university, and whilst most would be considering retirement at 65 - she is having to deal with the real possibility of eviction from their home, and potentially finding brand new job instead of building up her own practice. This pressure is crippling, and we want to help.

In April, Jo applied to study a part time course to gain her certificate of Supervision of Counselling and Psychotherapy at UCLAN. With this she will be able to turn her expertise to assisting a new generation of counsellers, improving practices across her local community as well as hopefully recieving a sustainable income to pay the rent. However, the course tution is £900, and she simply cannot afford it now. Jo plans to reject her place on the course, and I would like to do everything I can to ensure she can pursue it instead - she has no idea. This will be a complete surprise, so please do keep it a secret.

Jo helps people from all walks of life, approaching difficulties on a level that most of us cannot access. She deserves to continue doing what she loves and making a positive - sometimes life saving -  difference to those in need. Please help me, to help her, help us.
