During the past 2 years First Ferndown Scout Group have been busy making improvements to the hut in Cherry Grove and our next project is to replace the old heater, it dates back to 1991. It does work, but when it’s running it’s really noisy so you can’t hear much, and it’s either turning the hall into an oven when it’s on, or if it’s switched off it’s like being in a fridge! We hope to buy an up to date infra-red system, designed to heat large commercial spaces which will be more economical and much better for the environment.
Heating systems aren’t exciting, creative or much fun! However our groups are! We want to be sure everyone is able to enjoy their activities and not at the mercy of the heater! Our hut is used by a number of different groups, and we want to offer more people the chance to enjoy our facilities when Scouting activities aren’t taking place. Being the best venue we possibly can for Ferndown is our aim.
Our proposed projects are (in order of priority):
A bit about Scouting:
Scouting introduces young people aged between 6 and 14 years to new interests and gives them skills for life #SkillsForLife. Considering others and helping those less advantaged are also part of the Scouting ethos. We have recently raised funds to help ShelterBox as well as car washing for activity camp funds and hope that you will help us achieve our goal for this important project. Astronaut Tim Peake tells of his inspiration from when he was a scout, click here to see Tim Peake's message for Scouts. Please see our website to find out more about what we do.
ways you can help:
If you would like to support us but can’t donate, please do like and share posts from our Facebook page, we need to spread the word so we reach as many people as possible. If you are local and would like to get involved please get in contact via our website, we’d love to show you round the cosier, more welcoming hut when we get the new heater.
