My name is Jo and I have been climbing since the age of nine at the Castle Climbing Centre. I have been competing for the GB Team for 4 years but this year will be my first season on the senior team which means I will have the chance to compete in the World Cups all over the globe. Next year will be climbing’s introduction to the Olympics and the selection for the 2020 team will depend on the results from this season. Working as a coach for Catalyst Climbing and as an instructor for Geckos Climbing Club at the Castle, I’m saving money to fund my travel and accommodation expenses, but unfortunately, as climbing is still a relatively small sport, athletes receive very little funding so I will be paying for all of the comps myself. £2000 will not be enough to cover the costs of my full season (I could be travelling from Japan to the USA as well as all over Europe) but, combined with the money I’m earning it should be enough to help me fulfill my potential on the world stage! If there should be any left over money I will be donating this to Climbers Against Cancer.
