I am Jo and I run The Beehive workshops in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. We started off as a gift shop supporting local artists and makers by selling their products, at the end of 2018 we changed this to concentrate on providing creative workshops. I took my teaching qualifications and I personally run the jewellery making and needle felt workshops with other tutors offering different workshops. I quickly realised that this was something that was much needed in Lincoln as the response was amazing. I also quickly realised the extremely positive effect the workshops were having on individuals. Suffering with severe anxiety myself I know the massive effect being creative can have. It makes me feel so good when someone says how good a workshop made them feel or how proud they are of what they have made.
I try to keep the workshops very low cost and mostly just to cover the costs of materials, rent and electricity, I do not take a wage for myself and I haven’t for the past 2 years, I am a beauty therapist 2 days a week to cover my living costs. The Beehive is a labour of love.
I really want to lower the costs further so that more people can benefit from this amazing therapy, I also want to buy more equipment and materials to offer more variety of workshops.
I want to help as many people as I can through the power of creative workshops, anyone suffering from mental illness, anxiety, depression, loneliness, disabilities and lack of confidence.
Can you help? Every little helps and it would be going towards running free and low cost creative workshops accessible to all in Lincolnshire.
