New stretch target

We will be able to organise a launch of Heartwood on Valentine's Day, performing and selling the CD. Lovely.

Any extra funds will be donated to Sheffield Tree Action Groups for their Campaign to save Sheffield's street trees.

HEARTWOOD: a charm-song for Sheffield trees

Sheffield is a city of trees, a city of people trying to defend them from unjust felling. So far 5500 street trees have gone. Protesters have brought their campaign against felling to world attention. Find out more here.

This year, Robert Macfarlane, the UK's most famous writer of the natural world, wrote Heartwood, a "charm against harm" for all Sheffield street trees threatened with unjust felling. At Sheffield Street Tree Festival this September, Robert presented it for the first time and we, a choir of Sheffield tree protectors, gathered to sing it in a setting by community musicians and writers Val Regan and Sally Goldsmith. There wasn't a dry eye.

Robert Macfarlane said,

"Shivers ran up and down my spine as I listened to this heartfelt, heart-hitting performance of Heartwood."

The CD and who it will help

Now Val and Sally have gathered together an even bigger community choir of people. We want to raise our voices, record Heartwood and make a small but beautifully produced CD, the proceeds from which will go to support Sheffield Tree Action Groups, including legal costs for those who have been arrested for standing up for our urban forest.

What we need

We need funds to pay for producing this CD: for the workshop to learn our parts, for studio time, beautiful artwork, a simple promotional video, copying and marketing. We don't need much but we do need it! Any surplus will go to a CD launch and to STAG, Sheffield Tree Action Groups who are campaigning to save Sheffield's street trees from felling. Read more about STAG here.

Will you help us to make this happen? Will you help us to create something gorgeous? Will you help us to support the people who protect our beautiful trees and are an inspiration to the world? We'd be charmed if you did.
