Our Healthy Families project aims to build on the success of our Mamafit programme, which we have been delivering across Merseyside since 2011 supporting thousands of pregnant women & new mums to be healthy & active throughout pregnancy and into motherhood.
Through delivery of our Healthy Families project we will engage and support the whole family to be active together by involving dads, dads-to-be & children in the project alongside pregnant women & mums; improving the health & wellbeing of local families and positively impacting the whole community.
What our project involves
The project will involve delivery of free family fitness classes, organised walks and social events, bringing people together to get fit & active; improving health, boosting mood and reducing social isolation.
Classes are designed for the whole family and are delivered in fun, friendly and family orientated environments suitable for all fitness levels, all ages and all situations.
As well as the family fitness classes, we will arrange family walks in & around the local area making the most of the surrounding parks and green spaces; encouraging families to be active in nature throughout the year. We will also host regular social events such as coffee mornings and celebration events; bringing people together to talk, share tips, gain peer support, form friendships and celebrate community.
We piloted our Family Fitness classes in Liverpool over the summer, receiving fantastic feedback from participants and lots of interest from other local families. We will use learning from our summer pilot to deliver family fitness classes, walks and social events in more areas across Merseyside enabling us to reach a wider and more diverse range of communities.
- "We loved being able to bring both the children. Got all of us out exercising, which we wouldn’t have done if it weren’t for this class! I loved that we are still spending time together as a family & it doesn’t matter if we don’t have any childcare. No excuse not to exercise!"
- "I enjoyed being able to do it as a family. Getting a proper workout using variety of equipment and meeting other parents"
- "It was a great way to get the family out and about on a Saturday morning and get a workout in without having to worry about making childcare plans"
We will also train and support volunteers to become Healthy Family Champions. Our Champions will be tasked with encouraging new families to join the project and support delivery of classes, walks & events; helping to create a healthier, more active and connected community.
Our Champions are central to the ethos of our organisation and will play a pivotal role in the success and sustainable impact of the project.
Five ways to Wellbeing
Our project aligns with the governments 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' encouraging people to connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give. Evidence has shown that small improvements in wellbeing can reduce mental health problems and help people to flourish.
Healthy Families will make our community a better place by bringing families together, providing socialisation opportunities for people in similar situations, encouraging attendees to be regularly physically activity, lead healthier lifestyles and to take time to connect with each other; creating a sense of togetherness and community cohesion.
We are passionate about making a difference to people lives; supporting families to be active, encouraging parents to be healthy role models for their children, inspiring a generation and creating a healthier future for our children.
We believe our Healthy Families programme will have a lasting impact on family health across Merseyside.
With your support we will be able to make our idea become reality, helping hundreds of families across Merseyside to get more active; improving their health and quality of life.
Any funding received will be greatly appreciated and will allow us to offer classes, walks and social events in more areas across Merseyside, further targeting families with the greatest need; suffering deprivation, health inequalities and isolation.
Thank you for any support and funding you are able to provide.
