Head High CIC started in October 2017, we launched our first project The Night Bus in January 2019 at The Chatterbox Cafe in Allenton, Derby. The Night Bus is a night time cafe open every Friday and Saturday night between 10pm and 1am. The aim of the project is to provide a calm and safe environment where anyone who is struggling with their mental health can go and have a hot drink and chat with our friendly volunteers at a time when they need it most.
We extended our Night Bus hours on World Mental Health Day by opening a pop up Night Bus at Bean Cafe, Derby. We hope to do this more in the future and open up different mental health cafes in different areas in order to reach out to those who may need us.
At Head High we also do many other such things such as a monthly Community Meal and monthly Supper Club. We've also recently set up a 'Nibble & Natter' group every first Sunday of the month. These are free to attend and are aimed to help combat loneliness within the community.
For Mental Health Awareness Week, we launched our Head High Happy Box Challenge on social media. This is to encourage people to talk about mental health and recognise the small things in life that help lift our mood. To see some examples visit our Facebook page:
At Head High we also offer Mental Health In The Work Place workshops focusing on how to manage work related stress and looking out for employees wellbeing.
In September 2019, we hosted our first ever Fundamental music event which took place in Derby City Center. The aim of the event was to raise awareness for mental health and celebrate what support their is available by inviting different services to have their own interactive stall. This involved a main stage with various different acts such as Music, Poetry and Dance as well as an arena with engaging activities such as Bhangra Fit, Yoga, Boxercise and much more. This is something we plan to do annually and have already began to plan next year's event in July 2020.
At Head High we are very excited for the future and have lots of projects we'd like to set up in order to support people with their journey to good mental health and would now like to focus on our plan to set up a Young Person's Project in order to reach out to young people within the community who may be suffering with their mental health.
The funding we receive will go towards the start up costs of the Young Person's Project as well as a paid member of staff who will be making it all possible and ensuring that all of our projects remain sustainable.
